Common Era

Should Congress pass a law making BC/AD the official method of dating time?

This is the question that you will see in bold and huge letters on the website for the American Family Association, petitions area. I've included the link so you can see it for yourselves. http://www.afa.net/petitions/bcad/takesurvey.asp
From the website:
"The new secular system of time dating will appear in the curriculum and other materials used by Kentucky educators. This new system is already being included in textbooks across the nation.

The new method will replace the birth of Christ as the dividing point in history. For example, the new system would change 2006 AD (Anno Domini) to 2006 CE (Common Era)."

Is this really necessary? God doesn't force Himself upon us, do we need to force Christianity on our fellow countrymen? Would forcing people to use BC and AD really bring about a change in their lives?

This email asking people to go to this site and vote is going around, you may have already gotten it, or you may be getting it within the next few weeks. I think the better question to ask ourselves is, what have we done lately to show the love of Christ to others, without forcing?

It's ridiculous that people go 'round and 'round about stuff like this. Keeping the dating system as it is will not win anyone over to Christianity. Nor will changing it to something secular stop the world from spinning. As Christians, I don't think we should ever be surprised when the world wants to be more secular. We simply need to maintain our connection with Christ- let the world do it's worst...

I think too often we wait for a BIG opportunity to reach out to someone, when a simple smile or showing a common courtesy is just as important in showing God's love. Thanks for the challenge!! :o)

I think the Bill of Rights should read, "Congress shall pass No law." and end there! :)

Most of what they turn out today is just trash so loaded with pork it's all pretty much useless.

I mean, can anyone think of ANY good bill that has come out of congress in the last few years??

Congress is just full of power-hungry, self-centered, lying career long politicians who have so lost touch with reality that it has become a joke.

So - if they just make 'no laws' we'll be just fine! :)

By the way, who cares if they change AD/BC. It's pretty much goofy they're taking the time to fool with it!

What a waste congress has become!

I like that. Congress shall make no law. Period.

Yes, it's a waste what we spend our time on.

Ridiculous, it won't change a thing either way. No one says I was born on Jan 1st 1985 ad, it is taken for granted, and most people don't even know what it means.

Devil's Advocacy Dept: But if BC/AD caused one individual, just one, to ponder its meaning, and by the Holy Spirit's guidance, that one individual accepted the gift of salvation, wouldn't it be worth the cause to keep it?

Ouch! You hit us with a good one Marcel. Jesus would have been willing to die for only one, so if just one person comes to know the Lord through this.....hmmmmmm.

But on the other hand.....what if 10 people are turned away because of all the Christian Vigilantes?

I guess that's where we have to trust God, as always, that He knows what He is doing and how the Holy Spirit is wooing (and cooing) each person.
