Music

Okay, I realize that this is a touchy subject, but I just have to ask - does the fact that Jesus is coming back soon mean we have to play all of our hymns and other musical pieces as if they were funeral dirges?

I mean, it's supposed to be an exciting thing to think about "When We All Get to Heaven" and other such songs. This is supposed to be HAPPY! Jesus is coming back to take us to heaven. That is incredible. Shouldn't we be excited about that?

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that our excitement is proportionate to the volume of the music, but a song about looking forward to Jesus coming again shouldn't sound like you are in the local funeral parlor.

If we want to tell others that Jesus is coming soon, we need to do it with a little more excitement in our voices, or else we are doing more harm than good in fulfilling the gospel commission.

Amen Sister! I LOVE the old hymns-so beautifully written by people who experienced similar spiritual battles. I don't believe the pioneers sang them as dirges. One of the most powerful lines in a hymn is "On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand." Rousing words- can't sing that one half asleep!!!

Absolutely, I don't think I've ever heard the song "Victory in Jesus" sang with little or no enthusiasm!!!

Some people think the slower a song goes and the more mellow the holier it is. When I enter those pearly gates I tell you I will be shouting and kicking up my heels! We have victory in Jesus to celebrate and be happy about. I dont go about my praise all quiet and serious. Some people laugh because I dont always hold a tune well but I sing from my heart.

My favorite (er, one of them) is Jeremy Camp and his song "Enough" by another artist. his voice carries that life and passion.

I also like Toby Mac of Third Day. Just stay away from the old and dead and embrace the new.
