Friday morning we wake up to the smell of skunk in the house. Yuck! Evidently one of these black and white creatures lingered long and left a mark somewhere outside our home. Just great!
Of course my mind is racing to our plans for that evening. Of course the house would smell like skunk when we have company coming over that night for dinner. Perfect timing, right? I was thankful that I knew where my incense burner was and that I could soon fill the house with something that smelled much better. Karl prefers spray air fresheners in general, but sometimes the smells are so long and lingering, you have to use the incense. The skunk smell definitely called for the incense.
I had the incense on the table next to my recliner. This is my favorite spot in the morning as I read my Bible and have that special time with God at the start of my day. As I saw the fragrant smoke going up from the incense stick and how it was covering up the smell of skunk, it made me think of the incense in the sanctuary in Israel.
The skunk smell was so horrible, that I had to mask it just to survive the day, starting with my time of Bible study and prayer. It was much the same with God's people in Israel. Their sins were so offensive, that God wanted them to have a picture of just how offensive it truly was. As the priests ministered before the Lord, interceding for the people, the incense would go up as a sweet aroma, compared to the nasty offensiveness of sin.
As I pondered this, I was grateful for the sweet aroma of Christ's wiling sacrifice for me.

I read your blog all the time. Don't think I have missed one. I don't always comment, but always read. I understand we have different beliefs, but I always wonder what is up with you. I want to thank you for being so kind to me. You give Christians a good name. I love incense. I burn it all the time. I love sage. It is cleansing. Its cool to know you love it too. Good luck with school and the kids. Mine are all at a public charter school. We were asked to leave the christian school. But my kids have adjusted.
I've had a rough month. And sometimes rough times help you see reality better. My "reality" that was 2 years ago. My reality that is now. Sorry. Honestly. You are a good person. Thank you for being kind. It is a rare trait these days.
My husband grew up in West Texas. But I hear thats a different planet than East Texas. I just remember driving through Texas. Seemed like it never ended. Good luck with your move. You need some time for yourself. If you were here we would could go do something. Coffee. Whatever. Phoenix is a big place. I've started doing things for me. And it is wonderful. Finally. Time for me.
The next time you talk to Mr. L, please tell him I said hi. Is there anyway you could give me his email? If its ok, email me at Barbiedoll800@homtail.com. I just want to say hi.
Good luck and Blessed Be.
Barb
Hi FallenAngel,
Its good to hear you again. I read you before when I used to chime in on Trailady's blog. But I've been away from there for some time. It sounds like you are doing well. I'm glad to know it.
RoseovSharon, I've been thinking about the animals. They seem to be given to Adam for him to learn about himself from them. In a world without sin, Adam couldn't have needed incense, could he? Maybe even before sin, Christ interceded for His intelligent creation in the presence of the Father. So maybe Adam could learn from the characteristics of the skunk to see how foul his perfection was to the Ancient of Days.
I think of the apes. They aren't primordial, evolving human beings. They were given to Adam so he could understand his being in God's image, yet far inferior in intelligence, beauty, and spirituality. Satan has turned that all around and people have taken that lie hook, line, and sinker.
Let's all keep moving toward love and letting it make us into beloved people. And the incense of Christ's character will get us there.
Take care, Sharon.
